Jewell Instruments to Exhibit at 2017 AGU Fall Meeting

Jewell Instruments will be displaying some of its highest precision sensors for the geophysical and geotechnical markets at the 2017 AGU Fall Meeting. The show will be hosted at the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center in New Orleans, LA on December 11-15. This is the largest Earth and space science meeting in the world.

Jewell will be showcasing its high precision tiltmeter line for geophysical and geotechnical applications in booth #227. These sensors have been in the business for over 30 years and are used to monitor some of the most demanding and iconic structures and land masses worldwide.

The newest additions to this senor group are the 850 and 875 MEMS Tuff Tilts. These are rugged tilt sensing options intended for structural monitoring and testing, and with MEMS technology, they are lower cost than most sensors in the industry.

Jewell Signs Sales Representative for U.S. Southeastern States

W.A. Brown Instruments

Jewell Instruments has expanded its sales network within the United States with the signing of W.A. Brown Instruments, Inc. as a sensor and controls sales representative for the southeastern states.  The company with carry Jewell’s force balanced, MEMS, quartz and electrolytic sensors in the Carolinas, Georgia, Florida, Tennessee, Alabama and Mississippi.

W.A. Brown holds offices in Cary, NC, Madison, AL, Orlando, FL and Georgia. Since 1948, the company has been serving the southeast with test and measurement equipment, sensors, enclosures and consoles, RF/microwave components and GPS timing and frequency solutions.

This new partnership will provide Jewell Instruments the opportunity to deliver its high precision sensors to a new corner of the country.

Jewell Instruments To Exhibit At Modern Railways

           

Jewell Instruments will be an exhibitor at Modern Railways at the Shanghai Exhibition Center on October 26-29. Modern Railways features innovative technology and equipment for rail transportation safety, operation, management and construction. Since its debut in 1992, this show has grown into one of the largest and most iconic railway industry exhibitions in Asia.

Jewell Instruments produces a variety of inclinometers and accelerometers for rail transportation applications. You can visit the sensors and controls team and learn about their sensors in the Eastern hall, booth E1185.

Jewell Hires Tim Dining as New Vice President of Operations

Jewell Instruments is pleased to announce that Tim Dining has joined the team as our new Vice President of Operations, based in Manchester NH.  Tim will be responsible for all aspects of Jewell’s Operations, including Engineering, Manufacturing and Quality.

Tim comes to Jewell with over 25 years of experience in the general management of manufacturing companies with a focus on production, engineering and quality assurance.  In his position as President of Sealite USA LLC., he successfully aligned staffing to ensure proper leadership and led the creation of a new strategic plan to pave the way for growth in the company’s changing markets. Previously, Tim was the President and CEO of Greenerd Press & Machine Company where he successfully revitalized their product lines by providing new vision, leadership and direction. Tim’s continuous focus not only resulted in increased sales and improved profitability but also more effective and efficient engineering capability and manufacturing quality.

Tim brings hands-on, real world knowledge of operations processes and uses this base to continuously increase production throughput, reduce scrap and improve product quality.   His team-based approach will support Jewell’s philosophies and goals and will help ensure our future success.

Miniature, Ruggedized MEMS Tiltmeter

The 875 Mini Tuff Tilt Series is the newest addition to Jewell’s tiltmeter (inclinometer) line for geophysical & geotechnical applications. This is an affordable and durable tilt solution in a miniaturized package to accommodate space constraints. Prices are as low as $300 per unit on quantities of ten or more.

The 875 Tuff Tilt series contains MEMS technology and is available in uniaxial and biaxial models. ±5°, ±15° and ±30° measuring ranges are available with a 0.05° resolution and 0.5-4.5 V, 4-20mA and digital RS485 outputs.

This serves as a great solution to many industrial and geotechnical applications. It is useful for structural monitoring, angle measurement and control, platform leveling, testing and research, OEM and more.

JMA-100/200/300 Offers Additional Measuring Ranges

The JMA-100/200/300 accelerometer series, a robust and affordable acceleration solution, is now available with ±4 g and ±10 g measuring ranges.  These additional ranges are intended for applications that include wider movement, but do not need as much sensitivity.

The JMA-100/200/300 series contains MEMS technology and is available in single (JMA-100), dual (JMA-200) or tri-axis (JMA-300) configurations. Standard measuring ranges span from the precision of ±0.5 g to a broad ±10 g with a resolution to 0.04 mg. It is also RoHS compliant to satisfy environmental demands.

The additional ranges provide the options to meet more demanding requirements. The JMA serves as a great solution for vehicle testing, railway maintenance and testing, lateral train control, acceleration/deceleration control and aerospace testing.

Jewell Announces Paul Silva as Sensors & Controls Sales Development Manager

Jewell Instruments is proud to announce the addition of Paul Silva as Sales Development Manager, Sensors and Controls, for the Americas Region. Prior to Jewell Instruments, Paul had successfully worked within various Sales, Marketing and Business Development leadership roles across multiple industries. In his most recent positions, he had served in Sales Management as well as New Product Development roles. Paul completed his BS in Marketing Management at Bridgewater State University.

At Jewell Instruments, Paul will assume the duties of Business Development for the Sensors and Controls product groups within the North and South American markets, with a large focus on Canada and the United States. He will manage and collaborate with Jewell’s sales representatives to develop and implement strategies for customer expansion and growth.

New Geotechnical Tiltmeter for Shallow Water Environments

The 820 Shallow Water Series is the most recent addition to Jewell Instruments’ electrolytic tiltmeter line for geophysical and geotechnical applications. This is a waterproof tilt solution that provides civil engineers a cost-effective and practical alternative to tiltmeters rated for extreme depths.

The 820 Shallow Water series is rated to 50 meters in depth and uses highly sensitive electrolytic technology to measure in one or two axes with a resolution to 0.0001° and virtually no long-term drift. Standard measuring ranges include ±0.5°, ±3° and ±50° with custom ranges available upon request. Analog, current and digital (RS232 and RS422) output options are also available.

This tiltmeter is intended to monitor structural activity at relatively shallow depths such as bridges, dams, dry docks or any other partially submerged structure.

Jewell Instruments has entered the JDI-100/200 digital MEMS Inclinometer into the Electronics/Sensors/IOT category of Tech Briefs Create the Future 2017 Design Contest. Hundreds of manufacturers and inventors have entered their latest and most innovative product to compete in this contest.

Other categories include aerospace & defense, automotive/transportation, consumer products, machinery/automation/robotics, medical and sustainable technologies. A group of 24 judges appointed by Tech Briefs Media Group will select the grand prize and category winners as well as the top 100 entries overall.

The most popular entries will be determined by voting. The polls are open now and all winners will be announced in September.

The JDI-100/200 is the latest addition to Jewell Instruments’ group of MEMS sensors. Made in-house, this ruggedized inclinometer includes digital output and full temperature compensation across all measuring ranges which enables the unit to perform to 0.005° accuracy.

The JDI-100/200 series utilizes MEMS technology to measure tilt in either single (JDI-100) or dual-axis (JDI-200). ±1°, ±3°, ±14.5°, ±30° and ±60° are the standard measuring ranges with a 0.0001° digital resolution and RS485 interface output. It is also RoHS compliant to satisfy environmental standards.

Jewell Instruments Acquires Gem Electronics

June 23, 2017:  Jewell Instruments, LLC (Manchester, NH) has announced today that it has acquired the assets of Gem Electronics, Inc. (Windsor, CT).  Included in the purchase are several market exclusivities for the Gem Electronics products, and technology for an advanced line of terminations, connectors, baluns, boosters, converters, hubs and switches. The Gem products will become part of Jewell’s Triplett Test Equipment and Tools division.

“The acquisition represents Triplett’s commitment to our growing presence in the Security and Datacom market segments.  The addition of Gem’s consumable products along with our new and growing sales and product development team will better position Triplett to provide a more complete line of solutions for Low Voltage installers and maintainers,” stated Jewell President Carlo Carluccio.  “Further, the continued development of Gem Electronics expertise in providing security solutions that deliver prosecutable evidence will also allow for further expansion into new markets and territories.”
