- Analog (Pivot & Jewel, Taut Band, Iron Vane, and Moving Magnet)
- Digital (LCD, LED, and Backlit LCD)
- Switchboard
- From 5% accuracy to 0.05% accuracy
- Off the shelf to highly customized
We'll meet your requirements immediately... we have decades of broad-based experience resulting in our superior breadth of product -- and our ability to meet your custom needs. Jewell Instruments can provide a proven, quick and cost-effective solution to your panel meters needs. (Click here to view our new Contract Manufacturing and Value Added Assembly Brochure)
Some of our many customizable features include:
- Improved Accuracy
Catalog meters (DC) meet specifications of 1.5% tracking and 2% accuracy of full scale, which may be improved as follows:
| |
Calibration
+/-1% tracking, +/-1% accuracy
+/-0.5% tracking, +/-2% accuracy
+/-0.5% tracking, +/-1% accuracy |
- Bezel Kits
- 4 Stud Mounting
Standard PB Series meters are furnished for 3-stud mounting in the 2" and 3" sizes and 2-stud mounting in the 1" and 4" sizes. Under this option (Option B), all sizes are fitted for 4-stud mounting.
- Colors, metal covers & bezels
Catalog meters are furnished with a matte black finish. The following optional colors, matte finish, are available for immediate delivery (clear is polished outside, finely ribbed inside).

- Blank dials
Blank dials, with or without scale divisions, are available for users who wish to do their own lettering or calibration. Mirror blank dials my also be ordered.
- Opaque dials
- Custom resistance
This option permits variations from 70% to 200% of those figures, for accommodation with related circuitry.
- Fast response
Some applications require faster response times than found in the standard meter. This option fills the need, with reduced damping factor. Standard meters have response times per specifications and ANSI Std. C39.1-1981, thus offering a response compromise between speed of response and overshoot. This option improves the response time to approximately half the catalog specifications. Resistance of the meter may double. Consult us if further data on a specific type and range is needed. Extra time is required for this option, and it is only available on taut-band meters.
- Custom pointers
Catalog meters are furnished with knife-edge black pointers unless one of the following custom pointers is specified.

- High temperature case & covers
Cases and covers of standard meters will withstand temperatures to 85° C. This option employs Lexan covers and special cases with ratings to 100° C and hot spot ratings to 110° C without damage. They are also ideal for any application where hotspot conditions are present in the equipment. (Lexan is a registered Trade Mark of General Electric Co.)
- ANSI symbols on dial
ANSI symbols indicating meter characteristics can be printed on an appropriate area — usually lower left- of the dial. The symbols shown below will be used, as applicable.
- Illumination
Series S, W, and BA meters can be furnished with internal light wells, together with socket and bracket assemblies, hardware, and instructions for attractive, glare free illumination. This option is appropriate for sizes 2 " through 5 " and mounting cutouts remain the same for BA option and W series. S series meters require two additional clearance holes for the lamp sockets. Sockets accommodate midget grooved T-1 size lamps in all standard voltages: 6,12,28, etc. Decreasing nominal voltages by 20% greatly extends lamp life with little loss in brightness.
- Hand-lettered custom dial
This option provides prompt service in hand-lettered custom dial. Unusual nomenclature and graphics can be accommodated. Customers find a worthwhile time and money saver in filling small-quantity needs for prototypes, etc.
- Mirror scale
- Heavy damping
Heavy damping is often required to minimize pointer motion where meter is subjected to mechanical vibration. This option subdues the motion with an increase in response time proportional to the amount of damping required. Standard meters have a damping factor of 2.5 minimum, 5 typical, in accordance with ANSI Std. C39.1. This option provides considerably more damped performance with a damping factor of 10 minimum.
- Untacked covers
Meters normally have covers spot tacked with cement in several places. Under this option the covers are left untacked, facilitating easy removal by the user.
- Single point calibration
- Improved resistance
The standard resistance of catalog meters is +/- 10%. This option provides for improving this tolerance to +/- 5%. Applicable to taut-band meters only.
- Sealed Case
This feature, which provides for complete sealing of the case, is ideal for humid, corrosive or dirt-laden environments or where the possibility of splashing is a problem.
- Temperature compensation
Normally the temperature influence is specified over a range of 25 +/- 10° C. This option provides for extending the range to 25 +/- 30° C. The addition of this feature increases the terminal resistance as given in the tabular data by approximately 25%.
- UL recognition
Modutec successfully met the stringent requirements of Underwriters Laboratories’ factory inspection and testing program for Recognized Components, and can supply PB, S, and W Series meters bearing the UL Recognized marking. These meters have Lexan cases and covers and must pass a special dielectric test. They are available in sizes 2 " through 4 ", with opaque (metal) dials only.
- Unit meter packaging
Normally meters and hardware are bulk packed for shipment. This option provides for their being individually boxed and marked for identification.
- High resistance voltmeters
Catalog voltmeters have a resistance of 1000 ohms/V, which by this option is increased to 10K ohms/V.
- Metric studs & terminals
This option replaces the standard SAE studs, terminals and hardware with metric types used worldwide. Sizes and conversion are as follows:
| |
Meter Size |
Electrical Terminals |
Mounting Stud |
| |
1" – 3" |
M5 instead of 10-32 |
M3 instead of 4-40 |
| |
4 " - 5 " |
M5 instead of 10-32 |
M3.5 instead of 6-32 |
- Insulated terminals
Insulated caps and nuts and instructions are furnished for the 10-32 electrical terminal, permitting power line AC or DC voltages to be safely applied to the meter in accordance with UL requirements.
- Rear zero adjust
This option provides for a zero adjuster on the rear of the barrel of the meter and also disables the front-of-cover adjuster normally used. It is most useful in the W Series where it eliminates the need for a zero adjust clearance hole on the panel. It also prevents tampering by the end user.
