Interposer Solenoids:

Interposer Solenoids

An interposer either allows or prevents a mechanical action, external to the solenoid, from occurring. A pin, in effect, is either inserted into or retracted from a mechanical linkage, depending upon whether the solenoid is energized or de-energized.

The solenoid can be designed such that its pin is extended mechanically (by an internal return spring) when the solenoid is de-energized (normal mode of operation). Also, the pin could be retracted by using an internal return spring when the solenoid is de-energized by using a pin with a cap on its end, which is required for its assembly (reversed mode of operation). In both cases, the plunger assemblies are captivated and when energized, the solenoids' pin positions are reversed.

Jewell Instruments delivers an "interposer" version of the smallest and most power-efficient tubular solenoid available in the industry. Employing the company's patent-pending TRICORE technology, the solenoid's outer shell is machined out of solid stock, resulting in only three magnetic air gaps instead of the usual four. The result is that the solenoid's magnetic efficiency is increased (and powers consumption decreased).

The T12 Interposers' small size further reduces wattage and power demands to perform the work assignment. It features an internal spring that maintains its 1/8" plunger (or "shear pin") in an extended position (where it can "interpose" itself between, for example, a latch or lock). When power is applied, the plunger retracts to a flush position. As such, it is ideal for battery power locking and similar applications.

Benefits
High Power Efficiency
The most magnetically efficient tubular solenoid designs in the industry, typically 20-25% less electrical power to operate. This makes the Interposer ideal for battery operation.

Proven Performance
Built for dependability and extremely reliable under rugged environmental conditions.

Cost Efficient Design
Jewell Instruments's experience in high-volume production results in a design that is less labor-intensive to manufacture and has fewer piece parts which lowers costs.

Models:
T12 3/8" Diameter TRICORE Interposer
T 24 3/4" Diameter TRICORE Interposer

Applications For the Interposer Solenoid
Smart Guns
Security Locks
Parking Meters
Disk Drive Locking Mechanisms
